They explained how Critical Chain Project Management (CCPM) could be applied to effectively manage military aircraft maintenance portfolios.

 

CCPM helps optimize the allocation and utilization of resources, balancing workload against available capacity to prevent overburdening and maintain consistent maintenance flow. It involves sequencing aircraft maintenance starts according to the capacity of the bottleneck, controlling work-in-progress, and assigning priorities effectively. This reduces multitasking and queue times while enhancing turnaround times (TAT). CCPM also entails defining a logical sequence of maintenance activities, identifying a critical chain for each aircraft, and simplifying progress monitoring and deadline estimation. This structured approach ensures resources are correctly allocated, deviations are visible, and corrective actions are preemptively managed. Moreover, the "Fullkit" principle ensures all necessary materials (parts, tools, documents...) and resources are ready before starting a task, enhancing efficiency. Lastly, CCPM includes buffer management strategies to mitigate uncertainties and ensure timely completion of crucial maintenance tasks.
