Theory of Constraints, Critical Chain Project Management, Lean : industry consulting & training - Marris Consulting
In this video, Florent Bonne, Sébastien Pagacz and Jean-Sébastien Fromont, respectively Factory Manufacturing Manager, Channel Group Manager and Factory Supply Chain Manager on the SKF Valenciennes site, share with us their experience in implementing the Theory of Constraints in production.
This 700-person factory manufactures ball bearings for aeronautics and aerospace. Products are created in small batches with significant cycle times. A lot of manufacturing must be followed at the same time and there are therefore a multitude of flows. The teams noticed that they were having difficulty releasing orders in relation to customer needs and therefore decided to use the Theory of Constraints to improve the industrial performance of the factory.

To enhance your expertise, Marris Consulting organizes training sessions on Theory Of Constraints applied to production and projects environments
This approach allowed them to focus on bottlenecks. All resources were focused on this problem and only this one, which made it possible to increase the fanout of the production line where the bottleneck appeared, but also the overall fanout of the factory. Debottlenecking actions, the use of the DBR system to manage flows and the reduction of outstandings have led to a significant improvement in performance. On the other hand, the end of month phenomenon, which generated a lot of stress for the teams, has been reduced.
The teams initially wanted to be supported by Marris Consulting to begin this process. The strength of SKF Valenciennes is to have been able to appropriate the concepts in such a way as to be able to continue the actions initiated, and to be able to go even further in the process, in total autonomy.
Implementing the Theory of Constraints requires a significant cultural change. It is therefore essential not to neglect team training, so that there is a good understanding of the concepts of flow and constraints. These training courses took place during the support phase of Marris Consulting, but still continue today to refresh memories and train new entrants. People from the Valenciennes site regularly attend inter-company training sessions offered by Marris Consulting. These sessions allow us to exchange ideas and realize that no matter the industrial sector, everyone has flow issues.
The Theory of Constraints is the tool par excellence to answer this.
Marris Consulting is an expert in the Theory of Constraints (ToC) and Critical Chain Project Management (CCPM). As industry consultants, we are focused on helping process and manufacturing industries reach their highest levels of performance by using Constraints Management combined with Lean and Six Sigma. We also use Critical Chain Project Management which we sometimes combine with Lean engineering to improve project performance. If you are unsure about the actions which need to be implemented to improve operational efficiency, our industrial management consultants can also conduct a performance audit. Furthermore, our experts host numerous Theory of Constraints (ToC), lean and project management training sessions throughout the year.
Marris Consulting is an industry consulting and training company specialized in the Theory of Constraints (ToC) and Critical Chain Project Management. We focus on improving the performance of manufacturing and process industries by using Constraints Management combined with Lean and Six Sigma. To boost project performance, we also use Critical Chain Project Management (CCPM), which we sometimes combine with Lean Engineering. Our 2-day performance audits, our performance consulting services and our project management, Lean, ToC & CCPM training by our industry consultants offer a wide range of solutions to help our clients around the world reach the highest possible levels of performance.
