What about I.T. Proof of Concepts?


Aligning business and technical strategies is a perpetual challenge. Rather than devising grand strategy that takes years to execute and isn't flexible, proofs of concept enable dynamic strategy that can take as little as 90 days to execute and is therefore quite flexible.


As implemented in the IT field, the POC goal is to determine whether customers will buy particular products or services, not to prove that a technology works. If a POC doesn't yield the desired result, the investment is small enough that it be readily reconfigured for another iteration, reallocated to a new POC, or abandoned altogether.


This rapid feedback from POCs is especially valuable in high-tech industries where strategic horizons are much shorter than in other industries: Horizon 1 (profit phase) is year 1, Horizon 2 (growth phase) is year 2, and Horizon 3 (research phase) is years 2+.
