Cash constraints is a crucial topic because, ultimately, companies often face crises due to a lack of cash, and that is what leads to their downfall. Ravi Gilani explains how he developed this expertise and what cash constraints entail.
He was traveling with a friend when he encountered Mr. Mahendru one of the owners of Indo AsianFuse Gears. Their company was making money for 40 years, but recently, they faced losses and severe cash problems – delayed salaries, vendor payments, and bank delays. It was a dire situation. Mr. Mahendru asked for help, and despite Ravi’s limited knowledge, they decided to try. By selling products at half the price but with immediate payment, they managed to turn the company around in six months.
This success became Ravi's first international conference presentation in 2002. Around 2001, he suggested to Eliyahu Goldratt in Atlanta that cash could be the constraint, but Eli dismissed it. However, in 2005, in Barcelona, he publicly admitted that cash is indeed a constraint. This recognition spurred Ravi Gilani's ongoing exploration of cash constraints. He presented simulations, including one in Miami in 2006, and every year at TOC conferences, the recurring request has been to delve deeper into cash constraints.
In 2023, this topic is still in demand. There is now acknowledgment of the importance of cash constraints in the world of constraints. This video was recorded in the United States in Hollywood Florida in 2023 at the TOCICO conference.
