To Toyota, Maintenance is an important lever to reach ambitious productivity objectives. Renald Debaut-Henocque, ex-vice-president of Manufacturing at Toyota Motor Manufacturing France (TMMF), presented the challenges and the organisation of maintenance operations within his former factory in Onnaing, the first one to adopt a three-shift regime among all the Toyota plants. To complete Reynald's speech, Philip Marris, CEO of Marris Consulting, exposed the Bad Lean practices with regards to maintenance he encountered in his career: maintenance is often neglected and outsourced for cost reasons whereas internalised maintenance can lead to higher availability rates of machines, improvements of equipment and expertise development of maintenance technicians.
