"The Goal" is the seminal novel about Theory of Constraints in manufacturing. "Exceeding the Goal" is a tutorial about applying lessons from TOC to information technology and strategy. It is written for managers and executives, not IT specialists, so it assumes no prior IT knowledge.


"The Goal" is fiction. "Exceeding the Goal" is nonfiction. That is, it includes dozens of true stories illustrating key concepts. The prologue covers my own journey from manufacturing to IT to corporate strategy. Subsequent stories delve into particular IT and strategy issues. For example, there are stories about IT megaprojects gone awry, IT projects saved by better analytics and policies, and strategy projects that exceeded their goal by resolving conflicts.
