Ludovic HAGNERE, Production Manager within Safran Electronics & Defense describes the Theory of Constraints deployment within the mechanical workshop in his plant, near Paris.
In this case, the plant's bottleneck was not correctly identified. The "2 for 1" rule was applied : launch a PO (Production Order) only after finishing two PO. Thus, the WIP went down from 52 000 to 12 000 parts. The lead times have been reduced from 7.2 months to 4 months and then to 2.6 months.
