What does our "5 tanks" logo mean?

Home>Who are we?>What does our logo mean?

The fundamental principle described in The Goal by Eliyahu Goldratt states that it is no longer possible to distribute work equitably: organizations are necessarily unbalanced. The logo of Marris Consulting aims to emphasize this idea with the illustration of five interconnected tanks.

Philip Marris, founder and CEO explain its origins in this video interview (in French):

Logo Marris Consulting Expert en Théorie des Contraintes

In a nutshell:

  • The five tanks stand for 5 resources, each having a different capacity

  • The one in the middle has a limited capacity and is the bottleneck.

  • Inventories (liquid in the tanks) pile up in front of the bottleneck while resources after the bottleneck are regularly starved.

  • The bottleneck controls the throughput of the whole system, hence the importance to properly manage it in order to maximize the overall performance.

Such a bottleneck is the system's constraint, preventing it from obtaining more of its "goal units".
