Flying blind in a V-shaped plant?
Metals, steel, foundries, plastics, chemicals: these industries share the same production pattern, where few raw materials enter the plant only to leave it in many different forms. This is what we call a V-shaped plant.
This structure imposes constraints that cannot easily be worked around. Equipment is expensive, and capacity decisions commit the company for the long term, while inflexible resources struggle to adapt to demand variations.
Classical approaches such as MRP, designed for forecasting, quickly reach their limits when faced with this complexity.
To amortize heavy investments, production then runs in large batches, which inflates inventories and erodes agility.
The paradox becomes glaring: warehouses full of products nobody is asking for, while the references customers actually want go out of stock.
What can be done when complexity hides the real problems? Stopping flying blind first requires learning to read your flows. Clarifying what moves through the plant and locating the true points of tension means understanding your factory's dynamics. Capacity decisions, batch sizes and, ultimately, customer service levels all flow from this reading.
What you will learn in this webinar:
The objective:
Lower inventories and a better service level, without permanent firefighting.

Drawing on insights from experience in process and transformation industries, this webinar shares straightforward learnings to better manage and optimize flows in V-shaped factories. The aim is to better handle the flows to reduce inventory and consistently improve the service rate, while limiting the constant trade-offs that drain the teams and boosting the overall performance of demanding industrial environments.
Philip started his Theory Of Constraints journey in 1986 when he joined Creative Output and worked with Eliyahu Goldratt, the founder of TOC and author of the worldwide bestseller “The Goal”. In 1994 he wrote a bestselling TOC textbook in French.
He is also a recognized Lean expert and combines Lean (Manufacturing/Engineering/Management) with TOC. He founded Marris Consulting based in Paris France in 2005.
Half their business is outside of France in Europe and the rest of the world. He is bilingual and bi-cultural French/English. He is very active in the TOC community. He has implemented TOC over 400 times in over 30 countries. His clients include: Air France, Altho Brets, Andritz, ArcelorMittal, Ariane Group, Aubert & Duval, BAE Systems, Baxter, Boston Scientific, Budenheim, Bulgari, Busch, Compin-Faisa, Dassault, Embraer, Equans, Expliseat, French railways (SNCF), French air and space force (AEE), Getinge, GSK, Holosolis, IamGold, McDonald's, Louis Vuitton, Osram, Procter & Gamble, Qiagen, Rolex, Royal Canin, Safran, Salzgitter-Mannesmann, Siemens, SKF, Sun Chemicals, Thales, Valeo, Vallourec.

To know more about Theory Of Constraints and Critical Chain
Marris Consulting is an industry consulting and training company specialized in the Theory of Constraints (ToC) and Critical Chain Project Management. We focus on improving the performance of manufacturing and process industries by using Constraints Management combined with Lean and Six Sigma. To boost project performance, we also use Critical Chain Project Management (CCPM), which we sometimes combine with Lean Engineering. Our 2-day performance audits, our performance consulting services and our project management, Lean, ToC & CCPM training by our industry consultants offer a wide range of solutions to help our clients around the world reach the highest possible levels of performance.
