Critical Chain 2026 Annual Conference - Service industries boosted by Critical Chain Project Management

Home>Conferences>Critical Chain 2026 Conference - Service industries boosted by Critical Chain Project Management

Critical Chain 2026, an online event by TOCICO on the 22nd of April

The annual Critical Chain Conference gathers practitioners, innovators, and leaders from across the globe who share a commitment to applying Critical Chain Project Management (CCPM) and the Theory of Constraints (TOC) to drive exceptional project outcomes.

This event provides a valuable platform to exchange real-world experiences, explore emerging tools and methodologies, and connect with an international community dedicated to advancing the way projects are planned, managed, and delivered.

Flow is vital in industry as well as in services

Many service industries – banking, insurance, healthcare, software development, tourism and hospitality and many others – must manage portfolios of projects.

The services they provide are not repetitive. There is uncertainty and variability in the workflow.

In these environments the Critical Chain approach is perfectly suited.

We will present 4 examples and 4 key success factors. As usual the lead-times are reduced by 50% to 80%, the productivity and throughput increase significantly, and the projects nearly always finish on time.

4 recent case studies will be presented:

  • An insurance firm for high value assets (factories, warehouses, restaurants, …).
  • An ERP and CRM editor who used CCPM to implement its software package much faster.
  • A sales tax services company to better manage its customer on-boarding process.
  • A banking services company to implement its software in complex banking environments.

Four key success factors

  1. Increase throughput and productivity by identifying and better exploiting the constraint within the project portfolio. In many cases, this means protecting the bottleneck (a specific person or team) from unnecessary interruptions and redistributing certain tasks to other team members.
  2. Apply the Critical Chain methodology: identify (or deliberately select) the project’s Critical Chain of tasks, improve or redesign it where necessary, implement the relay-race principle, and use the portfolio Fever Chart to clearly determine priorities.
  3. Make often invisible, intangible work visible and improve task allocation, for example by using visual management tools such as a Kanban board.
  4. Establish an effective performance dashboard and regular management routines (daily or weekly). While these practices are common in manufacturing environments, they are often weaker in service organizations. Relevant KPIs may include: files or clients completed per week, average lead times, service level (OTIF), and rework rate. Structured management routines also help identify blockages quickly and enable teams to find solutions rapidly.
