The Conference
The Theory of Constraints (TOC) created by Eliyahu Goldratt, author of the best-selling book "The Goal", is well-known for its obsession to get the maximum out of a constrained system by focusing all the efforts on an unique leverage point. After it had shown its relevancy in industrial relevancy, TOC has been adapted to other environments, in particular project management with the "Critical Chain" approach.
Some constraints are not linked to the ressources' capacity but are of totally different kinds such as politics, beliefs, wrong assumptions etc. which limit companies and organizations. To overcome the limiting effect of these constraints, TOC proposes a set of logical tools dedicated to find solutions to complex problems: for instance, an strictly rational analysis to reject some wrong hypotheses or to invalidate some unfounded beliefs which cause absurd conflicts. This set of logical tools can verbalize with great clarity the Goal's strategic intention, list the current undesirable effects which are the obstacles to achieve strategic objectives, develop solutions to neutralize or bypass these obstacles and list the necessary actions to their implementation to come up with an operational action plan.
Amongst these logical tools, the Goal Tree is a creation from Bill Dettmer, eminently respected worldwide expert and author of many books, which covers with elegance and simplicity one of the deficiencies of the original logical tools.
Christian Hohmann, the speaker, studied and tested these tools within various companies before obtaining his certificate of Master of Logical Thinking Process of Bill Dettmer and co-hosting with him training sessions in Paris. The presented examples are lessons learnt from past tangible experience. Christian Hohmann is the author of 5 books, including "Lean Management". His regularly updates his personal website, his blog in English and produces educational videos on his Youtube Channel, with a certain focus on the Goal Tree.
